Mod Chains (Free Quilt Pattern)
By far, this is one of my favorite quilt patterns because it lends itself so well purging scraps and depleting one’s stash. This is a traditional pattern, but with the right fabrics it takes on a modern look. Aren’t these great! Be sure to download the pattern here: Irish Chain (page 1) Mod Irish Chain (page 2)...
Rainbow Modern Triangle Quilt
Ready. Set. Quilt.
Well, the quilt top is finally complete! And I have to say, it turned out way better than I thought it would. Not that I doubted Jen’s expertise, but when you’re looking at the fabric up close it’s difficult to see the contrast. It wasn’t until I stood back a few feet that I could see the design. Though, taking a photo really helped out a lot too. Be sure to check out the Flickr group!...

Fabric Color Wheel
After about an hour of unsuccessfully gathering fabric into a pile for “In Color Quilts” quilt along. I needed to regroup and start the whole process over again. This time, I broke the process into several steps. Step 1: Review the basic color wheel. Step 2: Pick one fabric from each of the colors in the wheel. Step 3: Fill in the gaps until you have enough fabrics for the top. Now that’s much better!...

June Fabric Bundle
Yes, it possible that i fibbed a little when writing about the de-stash challenge. I completely forgot about my fabric bundle subscription with Pink Chalk Fabrics. This wonderful bundle was left on my doorstep yesterday and I’m terribly pleased at it’s arrival. There aren’t any specific plans for it yet. Nonetheless, the colors remind me of the ocean so an ocean themed quilt is now on my list. All the best!June Fabric Bundle 1, a photo by Ava Landen on Flickr....

Quilting Purple Circus
Hello. Meet Purple Circus. This little fellow was created April 20, 2011 from Echino purple linen and various prints from Michael Miller. I didn’t have a particular purpose when making it. It was just sort of a happy accident. I was walking around Intown Quilt Shop in Atlanta and stumbled across the Michael Miller fabrics sitting on the fat quarter display. I picked up a couple and when I returned home I realized I had a yard of Echino in my stash that matched it perfectly. So, sketched out a few designs in my trusty notebook and commenced cutting, sewing...

Quilting at the Beach
This past week was one of the best vacations I’ve experienced this year. My husband and I traveled to Duck Island, NC.  It was roughly a nine hour drive up from Atlanta, but it gave me time to review some of my quilt patterns and workout most of the kinks. Luckily, I was allowed to bring my sewing equipment and as much fabric I could pack in my suitcase. Trust me, I probably had more fabric than clothing packed for the whole week. I suppose the week was as productive as could possible be. I brought enough fabric for 3...

Ever just feel overwhelmed by your stash?
There are so many wonderful quilting fabrics these days and, of course, I want all of them. Then, there are days like today when I’m totally ready to purge and  just start all over. Most the fabric you see in the photo was purchased with the primary intent of making quilt, but over time I’ve gotten distracted with other projects and never quite got to all of it. It’s not that I don’t love my fabric, because I do. (I’m notorious for absentmindedly petting it when walking by it.) Yet lately, every time I walk into the sewing room, I...

A little bit of Parisville Fabric
For many of you in the quilting world, this line is probably considered old news since it’s been out since Dec 2010. It’s one of those fabrics that I really wanted to purchase when it first came out because I absolutely love Tula Pink (see quilts here and here.) But this line, took a moment for it to grow on me (kinda like Amy Butler’s Soul Blossoms and Denyse Schmidt Greenfield Hill). For some reasons, these lines don’t speak “buy me now,”  rather the only thing I here is “wait until you see a flickr photo first.” I’m not kidding....
